Schizophrenia: New pathological insights and therapies
Article Abstract:
New longitudinal neuroimaging studies show a progressive component to the neuropathology of new-onset schizophrenia thus opening a possibility that the functional decline seen in many patients following the onset of illness might be halted or slowed. An update is provided on developments in research on the neuropathology of schizophrenia and new advances in antipsychotic treatment and the potential impact on long-term outcomes, are discussed.

Does anti-IgE therapy help in Asthma? Efficacy and controversies
Article Abstract:
Studies reveal that omalizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody against IgE, is clinically effective when it neutralizes most of the free IgE and reduces IgE receptors on basophils and mast cells. Even though, the magnitude of the beneficial effect is small, they are observed in the most advanced cases, particularly the decline in exacerbation rate and omalizumab therapy might be cost-effective in patients with severe and refractory asthma.

Toward a comprehensive set of asthma susceptibility genes
Article Abstract:
Many promising asthma susceptibility genes are identified, and promising genetic tools emerging coupled with the completion of the International HapMap Project will increase the scope of gene-discovery investigations. These tools, combined with validation studies in additional populations will hopefully enable the creation of a comprehensive catalogue of susceptibility genes for asthma.
