School run
Article Abstract:
School nurse Sara Richardson looks after 2,216 children in four schools in Hove, England. School nurses are increasingly taking on the workload of doctors in schools, which means that Richardson has to undertake health assessment interviews with 300 pupils during their first year of senior school education. This gives extensive follow-up work. Richardson also deals with urgent medical problems and undertakes health promotion activities. School nurses may have to address health issues connected with school routines, and some school nurses teach health-related lessons.

Heading for home
Article Abstract:
Staff at Newhaven Downs hospital in Sussex, England, which takes elderly people with a range of needs, place strong emphasis on working towards patients returning home. Some patients are awaiting nursing home placements, but this can a lengthy process because of the restricted social services budget. This in turn means that the hospital is unable to admit new patients as quickly as it would like. Many patients still need subacute care, and there are also 10 mental health beds.
