Scientists charged with choosing publication over public health
Article Abstract:
The Dutch researchers at Erasmus Medical Center (EMC) are accused of aggravating an outbreak of lymphogranuloma venereum, a re-emerging sexually transmitted disease (STD), by keeping secret their knowledge of an early cluster of cases in order to publish their data in a research journal. The Dutch Health Care Inspectorate (IGZ) lodged complaints with the Dutch medical disciplinary boards against the head of the Department of Dermatology and Venerology of EMC, Rotterdam for the disaster.
