Security screening
Article Abstract:
Nurses should ensure they are meeting the conditions of the Data Protection Act, 1984 in the management of patient records. Nurses should encourage security-conscious staff attitudes. Only authorised personnel should access the computer. Computers should be located for privacy and passwords strictly controlled. Nurses should reassure patients that information is collected only to ensure the provision of optimum health care. The Act allows patients' access to their files although restrictions may operate if the information is harmful or threatens another individual's privacy.
