Seeking contact
Article Abstract:
Tayside health board and Dundee University, Scotland have conducted investigated why women fail to respond to cervical screening invitations. General Practitioners provided the names of women who could have responded and up to eight attempts were made to see them. Questions ascertained attitudes to cervical cancer and problems associated with screening. Only 307 out of 660 women participated. Bereavement, domestic pressures and child abuse were reasons for non-attendance. Their answers will assist future policy formation.

Speaking out
Article Abstract:
Health education and promotion in the UK are not ideal. A lot of money has been spent on gimmicky posters advising against smoking, although it is common knowledge that smoking is bad for health, whilst the public and even those employed in health care lack knowledge of bowel and bladder disorders. There need to be changes nationally and dissemination of information at a local level.
