Article Abstract:

There is still only limited information about the exact causes of acute pancreatitis, an inflammatory response within the pancreatic tissue prompted by premature activation of the digestive enzymes. The autodigestion of the pancreatic tissue and blood vessels leads to necrosis and haemorrhage and becomes more severe as more pancreatic tissue is damaged and more enzymes are released for activation. Symptoms include respiratory problems, nausea and vomiting, pyrexia and anuria.

Article Abstract:

Air embolism takes place when bubbles of air are introduced into circulating blood, and this can be due to trauma, surgical procedures such as IV injections or by decompression illness. Symptoms of decompression illness vary according to where the embolism causes a blockage in the blood flow, and the main treatment is immediate recompression in a hyperbaric chamber, as the increased air pressure within the chamber reduces the size of any nitrogen bubbles in the body.
