Article Abstract:
Many medical associations, including the American Medical Assn (AMA) and the American Society of Internal Medicine, plan to continue lobbying Congress for modifications to laws governing physician self-referrals. Stark seeks stiffer self-referral standards
Article Abstract:
Rep Pete Stark has introduced a bill called the Comprehensive Physician Ownership and Referral Act of 1993 that would forbid physicians from referring patients for tests or procedures to a laboratory or pharmacy that they own or invest in. Critics have charged that such practices lead to overutilization of expensive services and overprescription of drugs.
