Setting up an HIV-testing service with same-day results
Article Abstract:
The introduction of a same-day HIV testing service at the genito-urinary medicine clinic at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland, has proved popular with patients. The advantages of the same-day service far outweigh the numerous logistical problems created by its introduction. The service avoids the anxiety associated with waiting for the result of an HIV test and makes the consequence of taking a test real and all-consuming for patients who have admitted their worry by making an appointment. Patients are counselled and tested before 11am and receive the results of the test the same afternoon.
