Sharing education
Article Abstract:
Glenfield Hospital National Health Service Trust and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Leicester, England, set up a collaborative course for nurses and second-year medical students in 1997. The nurses studied a gastrointestinal systems module, attending the university half a day a week for 14 weeks. They undertook a written examination with the medical students, and were also expected to prepare an assignment and five case studies. They found that their nursing experience allowed them to understand the clinical lectures, and that they could share their acquired knowledge with the nursing team.
