Shifting gear
Article Abstract:
Meeting the specific needs of returning nurses would increase the number of nurses willing to return to work after a career-break. High child care costs and low wages prevent many women from considering going back to work although some hospital trusts are introducing flexible working hours and child care facilities on site to encourage nurses to return. There needs to be a shift in attitude towards staff returning to work on a part-time basis, as there is a severe nursing shortage in the UK in 1999.
