Should AHMA membership be open to all licensed health care providers?
Article Abstract:
Presently, the American Holistic Medicine Association (AHMA) limits its memberships to those who hold the degree of Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), and those in training for one of these degrees. Some AHMA members have suggested opening membership to all licensed health care providers through an associate membership program. Associate members would have the same privileges as regular members, except for voting rights. There are a number of potential advantages and disadvantages to this change. Holistic health care is not limited to the medical profession, and requires the expertise of other fields such as dentistry and psychology. Many of the problems in medicine stem from the medical monopoly in health care. Traditional medicine's closed door policy to other professions limits new ideas and innovation in health care. The AHMA would also benefit from a greatly increased support base. However, the AHMA was set up to respond to concerns specific to the medical field, and expanding the membership would alter this purpose. In addition, the AHMA has already had difficulty in being taken seriously by the medical profession; open membership would only make this more difficult. Barring associate members from voting could also create problems within the organization. Not all states license certain health care providers; limiting membership to licensed providers would unfairly favor people living in certain states. The AHMA would like to hear from its members on the issue of expanding the AHMA membership. (Consumer Summary produced by Reliance Medical Information, Inc.)

The forces at work
Article Abstract:
Different types of energy and forces surround us in our daily existence. Electricity, nuclear power, and microwaves are some of the more familiar examples. Other forces that we do not generally think about also affect our lives. There are basically four forces that are necessary for anything to occur in our world. The first force is initiating an occurrence. This could be forming an idea or initiating an action. The second force soon follows the first. It involves resistance to the actions initiated by the first. The third force involves the interaction of the first two. This force depends on how the first two are viewed. Resistance can be looked upon as a negative force or a hindrance or as something to be expected and planned for. The final force is the result obtained from the combination of the others. Results often depend on the outlook of the other forces. Being aware of the forces that shape our lives and learning to accept and work with them can create a more positive and harmonious existence.
