Should nurses be discouraged from smoking in work time?
Article Abstract:
Some observers believe that UK National Health Service trusts should take a firm line against nurses who smoke. They believe that smoking should be regarded as an addiction, and that nurses who smoke should be offered rapid access to treatment to help them give up smoking. In contrast, others feel that employers should not have the right to dictate whether employees can smoke in their breaks. They argue that nurses should not be expected to act as role models for patients, and that both nurses and patients should be free to make their own lifestyle decisions.
