Solo practice: down, not out
Article Abstract:
The advent of managed care is causing many doctors to chose physician networks over traditional solo practices. Economic instability and encumbering self-referral laws are contributing to the trend toward physician groups. The consolidation of physician practices is cost effective but often affects the quality of doctor-patient relationships. Young physicians are opting for managed care practices due to changing values and rising medical school debt.
