Sources of stability
Article Abstract:
Health professionals can play a key role in helping to provide the sense of stability which is often so important in the lives of people suffering from a chronic illness. There are a number of resources which can be useful in this area, including information, respite care and complementary therapies. Information helps patients and their families deal with chronic conditions, while respite care is of great value, particularly to carers. Complementary therapies can allow the patient or carer to feel valued and have a greater sense of control.

Chronic complements
Article Abstract:
Correct professional intervention can help sufferers from chronic conditions to achieve a better quality of life. However, in many cases patients consider that their carers are unrustworthy and lacking in competence. Families are unable to form constructive relationships with carers who show little interest their patients. A study of families of patients with chronic illnesses shows that a common complaint is the lack of communication between care specialists and also reveals the need for a unified approach to treatment.
