Article Abstract:
Cancer patients who have had a laryngectomy require continuity of care and information, with family-focused nursing being a primary healthcare goal as families are a key factor in patient recovery. Services provided for patients in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, were perceived as inadequate in a survey. Greater support was required at the stage of initial diagnosis; prior to admission; and during and after discharge. A laryngectomy friendship initiative was set up to allow patients to exchange information.
