Speaking with the enemy
Article Abstract:
The Liberal Democrat candidate, Barbara Hewett-Silk, and the Green Party candidate, David Wheatley, for the UK constituency of Thanet South, in Kent, are both nurses. The Green Party candidate is male; the Liberal Democrat candidate is female. Both meet and discuss their party's policies towards the environment, pollution, recycling and unemployment. The Green Party disagrees with monetary union and wants Britain to leave the European Union while the Liberal Democrats believe that Britain has to be part of Europe if it is to have any influence over broader European policy making.

Government calls for 'realistic' nurse pay rise
Article Abstract:
Nursing unions are seeking a pay increase for nurses which will attract more people into the profession while ensuring those already working in the public sector service remain. The government is hoping nursing unions will take a more realistic approach to nurse pay rises for 2000, suggesting a figure of up to 3.5% for the public sector as a whole. The large number of grade E nurses are hoping to be included in the pay award for 2000 as they are usually left out.
