Stem cell losses and gains in the US
Article Abstract:
The article covers the problem of the stem cell research funding. The newly formulated Bush administration policy on the stem cell research has forced Jim Clark, a Netscape co-founder, to suspend payment of $60 million of his $150 million gift to the Stanford University but though at a loss to explain the reason of the fund withholding the university officials insist that they will complete their Bio-X initiative with the help of another $60 million donation from an unknown source.

R&D toxicity test to be eliminated
Article Abstract:
The author discusses the collaboration between the animal rights organizations and scientists in the US joining a worldwide movement to eliminate the use of the lethal dose -50 test, a toxicity test used on animals. The test that determines the dosage of a chemical and kills half the animals in the test group has been phased out internationally and will no longer be used for classification and labeling of drugs and chemicals.
