Stem cells probed as diabetes treatment
Article Abstract:
Scientists are working on cell replacement therapies that could provide long-term insulin production and regulation in individuals with type 1 diabetes, who lack insulin-secreting beta cells. Research is on to direct embryonic stem cells to form insulin-secreting beta cells and harness them to treat type 1 diabetes.
