Stress management
Article Abstract:
About 40% of work absenteeism in the UK is due to psycho-neurotic disorders mainly caused by stress at work. Stress can cause blood pressure, depression, nervous breakdowns and even cancer. In the US 70% of companies have in-house stress counselling programmes; the UK figure is 6%. The Health and Safety Executive undertook research in the late 80s which found that stress management can reduce absence by two-thirds, saving 100,000 pounds sterling for every 175 workers counselled. PSI Services have provided stress management programmes since 1977 and has cured 60,000 people.
