Students consider financial impact of HIV
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association's Medical Student Section passed a resolution that allows HIV-positive students to complete their medical training. A number of medical students testified that financial considerations should be made for students infected with HIV so that a productive medical career will be possible. However, some students stated that patient safety most be a top priority and that guidelines should be developed so that medical schools are not allowed to arbitrarily decide the fate of students infected with HIV.

Researchers circumvent fetal tissue transplant funding ban
Article Abstract:
Several researchers have continued fetal tissue transplantation research despite a 1988 fetal tissue research funding ban. In most cases, private funds are used to test fetal tissue transplantation as a treatment for Parkinson's disease. For example, researcher Robert Iacono takes patients to China to replace malfunctioning brain cells with healthy fetal brain cells. The patients pay for transportation and treatment, which can cost as much as $30,000.
