Sunlight increases serum 25(OH) vitamin D concentration whereas 1,25(OH)2D3 is unaffected. Results from a general population study in Goteborg, Sweden (the WHO MONICA project)
Article Abstract:
Previous studies have established correlations between vitamin D and sex, age, intact parathyroid hormone and seasonal sun exposure. To corroborate these findings, researchers studied a representative population sample of men and women in Sweden. Screening procedures for the WHO Monitoring Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Diseases projects were used to select the sample. Results indicate that sunlight affects calcidiol, but not calcitriol, concentrations.

Effects of smoking and smoking cessation on dietary habits of a Swiss urban population
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken among a random sample of the adult population in Geneva, Switzerland, showed that the diet of current smokers was generally less healthy than that of people who had never smoked. High levels of cigarette consumption were associated with high levels of coffee and alcohol consumption and low consumption of vegetables, fruits, fibres, saccharose, total carbohydrates and betacarotene. Current smoking seemed to affect more women's than men's diet.
