Supervised aftercare for clients with mental health problems
Article Abstract:
An additional clause to the Mental Health Act of 1983 enables mentally ill patients to be discharged into the community with the provision of a aftercare plan. Patients need to fulfill certain obligations to be discharged under the new act, such as having a place to live, agreeing to continue medication and allowing access to health officials. Supervision of the patient can be undertaken by anyone within the mental health profession, but it will usually be a community psychiatric nurse.
