Supplying the vaccine
Article Abstract:
National Immunization Days (NID) play a key role in global efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis. Recognizing that the success of NIDs depends on a steady supply of quality vaccines, the WHO and UNICEF have begun looking for better procurement methods, suppliers and planning methodologies for NIDS worldwide.

The quest for a vaccine
Article Abstract:
Medical science largely ignored polio until the latter part of the 19th century, mainly because its debilitating effects were confined to very young children. It was not until epidemics began occurring in industrialized countries that scientists began the search for a vaccine in earnest.

Third World vaccine production: vaccine producers in the developing countries have an important role to play in supplying high-quality products, and their efforts need to be supported by both the public and private sectors
Article Abstract:
There are 140 infants born annually, 95% of whom are in developing countries. Their governments are responsible for producing 60% of the available DPT vaccine as well as 'substantial' amounts of BCG for tuberculosis and yellow fever vaccines.
