Survival tactics
Article Abstract:
The perception of prostate cancer as a disease of old age is changing, as genetic testing for men with a family history of cancer becomes a possibility. Screening techniques have improved, but there is no clear consensus of the most effective primary treatment for localized cancer. Following diagnosis of prostate cancer, men often experience physical and psychosocial problems and require emotional support and practical advice. Nurses are in a good position to publicize new services for male cancer patients and provide research evidence as to whether patients benefit.

Management of superpubic catheters
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common in the UK to manage short- or long-term urinary incontinence with a suprapubic catheter, which is inserted into the bladder through an incision in the anterior abdominal wall. These catheters are easier to clean and change than urethral catheters, and also do not cause urethral damage. It is vital that nurses are aware of the principles of good catheter care, as well as the potential problems. The most common of these is poor or absent urine drainage.
