Targeted cancer treatment: Resisting arrest
Article Abstract:
Mathematical models were developed to explain the phenomenon of the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with imatinib (Gleevec), which have benefited patients, but was found to relapse when take of the drug. The data indicate that the activation status of primitive CML cells might determine their susceptibility to imatinib. It was shown that the combination of imatinib treatment with intermittent exposure to granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) accelerates the disappearance of initially quiescent primitive CML cells in vitro.

Cancer drug discovery: the wisdom of imprecision
Article Abstract:
The isolation of a small molecule that rescues impaired tumor suppressor p53 function by blocking p53's interaction with its natural inhibitor, HDM-2 is reported. Half human cancers have mutated p53 and most to the rest retain wild-type but non-functional p53.
