Teaching students the repair of resin-based composite restorations: a survey of North American dental schools
Article Abstract:
Seventy percent of all North American dental schools teach their students how to repair a resin-based composite dental filling. These fillings are more esthetic because they are the same color as teeth. However, this makes replacement difficult because the dentist may not be able to see where the tooth ends and the filling begins. For this reason, many dentists only replace the defective part of the filling, not the entire filling.

The effect of mechanical undercuts on the strength of composite repair
Article Abstract:
An in vitro study was conducted to determine whether undercuts prepared in old composite restorations could improve the strength between the restoration and a flowable composite as repair material. It was found that undercuts do not generally improve repair strength, as small undercuts on the surface of composite are always difficult to fill completely, resulting in areas of stress concentration.
