Telling tales
Article Abstract:
A report on doctors' performance suggests that the conduct of medical staff is not subject to the same law as that of nurses. A nurse would be dismissed for regularly arriving at work late yet no action is taken when doctors continually turn up late for their operating lists. Sympathy for doctors with poor standards contrasts with the obligation which the UKCC's 'Code of Professional Conduct' places on nurses to maintain and improve their professional knowledge and competence, particularly since doctors, unlike nurses, receive 10 days' of paid study leave each year.
