Plasma triglyceride level and mortality from coronary heart disease
Article Abstract:
Elevated blood levels of triglycerides may be associated with an increased risk of death from coronary heart disease in individuals with low blood levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. A study examined the association between triglyceride levels and death from coronary heart disease among 7,505 individuals. The number of deaths from coronary heart disease did not increase significantly with blood levels of triglycerides in both men and women. Elevated blood levels of triglycerides slightly increased the risk of death from coronary heart disease in individuals with low LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol.

Trends in the incidence of myocardial infarction and in mortality due to coronary heart disease, 1987 to 1994
Article Abstract:
Mortality rates from coronary heart disease (CHD) dropped between 1987 and 1994 even though more CHD patients were hospitalized. Researchers studied hospitalization and mortality rates from CHD among 352,481 people in four US communities between 1987 and 1994. In-hospital mortality rates from CHD dropped 5% per year, with the biggest declines occurring in white men, followed by white women, black women and black men. Hospitalization rates did not decline but actually increased during the period, mostly in black women and men.
