The NOD mouse model of type 1 diabetes: As good as it gets?
Article Abstract:
The type 1 diabetes non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse model is discussed. Two well-known rodent models of human type 1 diabetes exist, the NOD mouse and the BioBreeding rat, and the mouse is the model of choice. The value of each one for understanding the disease and for testing potential therapies is discussed with the conclusion that a better model is perhaps needed, that these animals are not complete surrogates for humans in this research area.

Genetic analysis of chemoresistance in primary murine lymphomas
Article Abstract:
Research describes a murine lymphoma model to elucidate the molecular basis of chemoresistance in oncological studies. Results demonstrate that lymphomas show differential treatment sensitivity between in vitro and a primary lymphoma established in vivo as evidenced by Bcl-2 oncoprotein's reduced resistance in in vitro but resistance to multiple drugs in in vivo.

Short interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting the Lyn kinase induces apoptosis in primary, and drug-resistant, BCR-ABL1 (+) leukemia cells
Article Abstract:
The effects of Lyn ablation on the survival of drug-resistant chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) blast crisis cells are studied using siRNA. Findings indicate that Lyn targeting may be useful in treatment of drug-resistant CML blast crisis and also provide evidence that BCR-ABL1 (+) leukemias are dependent on Lyn kinase for growth and survival.
