The case for supervision
Article Abstract:
A Royal College of Psychiatrists report has recommended community supervision orders for severely mentally-ill patients. Orders would apply to patients who have failed to comply with community treatment. Previous suggestions for compulsory treatment orders threatened individual liberty. However, refusal to comply with community treatment could affect mental health and safety. Community supervision orders would facilitate hospital recall of uncooperative patients.

Truth about drugs
Article Abstract:
Nurses can provide psychiatric patients with information to facilitate informed consent to treatment. They must ensure the patient understands the diagnosis and any possible side effects of treatment. They should provide unbiased information on any alternative treatments. They should be supportive and reassuring. They should also ensure that patients are not coerced into accepting treatment by challenging existing practices if necessary.
