The clinical utility of the perinatal autopsy
Article Abstract:
Perinatal autopsies may often yield important findings that may affect the clinically-determined cause of death. Perinatal autopsies are performed in cases of fetal death that occur after 20 weeks of development and neonatal death that occur within the first 28 days of life. Researchers reviewed the medical records of 168 cases of perinatal death that occurred between 1990 and 1991. The clinical cause of death was compared with the findings from an autopsy examination. A perinatal autopsy was performed on 124 patients. Of the 94 autopsies that produced conclusive results, 52 confirmed the clinical cause of death while 42 added significant information to or changed the clinical cause of death. Some autopsy findings that substantially changed the clinical cause of death would impact the future genetic counseling of the parents.

Commentary on JFK autopsy articles
Article Abstract:
Dr. Charles A. Crenshaw refutes articles published by JAMA in 1992 concerning descriptions of wounds suffered by President John F. Kennedy. Dr. Crenshaw, author of 'JFK: Conspiracy of Silence,' says Kennedy was shot from the front by one bullet that entered the throat and exited the back of the head. Dr. Crenshaw was on the trauma team at Parkland Hospital. JAMA articles called the observations in Dr. Crenshaw's book a fabrication. He and coauthor J. Gary Shaw filed a defamation suit against JAMA which was settled and required the publication of Dr. Crenshaw's response to the articles in JAMA. These articles were based on interviews with other doctors at Parkland Hospital in Dallas who said Dr. Crenshaw did not see the throat and head wounds up close.
