The effect of cementing procedures on retention of prefabricated metal posts
Article Abstract:
Resin cement appears to be better than zinc phosphate cement when placing root canal posts in the tooth root. These two materials were tested in tooth roots placed in an acrylic resin block so that the tensile strength of the post could be measured. One set of roots placed with zinc phosphate was also etched with acid to see if this step made a difference. All roots were subjected to thermocycling to mimic temperature fluctuations in the mouth. The tensile strength of the resin cement was significantly greater than the zinc phosphate cement. The acid etching made no difference in the tensile strength of the zinc phosphate cement.

Enhancing the retention of prefabricated metal posts and resin cores
Article Abstract:
A dentist describes his use of prefabricated metal posts and composite resin cores in restoring a tooth after a root canal procedure. Silver amalgam cores are most widely used, but composite resin cores are almost as strong and have other favorable characteristics.

An alternative method for restoring single-tooth implants
Article Abstract:
A technique for restoring single-tooth implants is reviewed that places a greater demand on the dentist but also gives the dentist more control over the process. This type of implant is used for people who have lost a tooth.
