Changes in myocardial perfusion abnormalities by positron emission tomography after long-term, intense risk factor modification
Article Abstract:
People who undergo five years of intense risk modification seem to show some regression of coronary artery narrowing. Researchers measured myocardial perfusion abnormalities in 35 people who had coronary artery disease by using positron emission tomography (PET) at rest before and after risk factor modification. Twenty control patients received conventional therapy and 15 experimental patients participated in a risk modification program. The risk modification program included exercise, cholesterol-lowering drugs and diet, stress management, and behavioral changes such as smoking cessation. Over a five-year period, the risk modification group had modest gains in myocardial perfusion associated with a reduction in coronary artery atherosclerosis. Patients in the control group generally worsened.

Quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation during in-hospital cardiac arrest
Article Abstract:
A study conducted to measure multiple parameters of in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality and to determine compliance with published American Heart Association and international guidelines is reported. The results revealed that the quality of multiple parameters of CPR was inconsistent and often did not meet published guideline recommendations, even when performed by well-trained hospital staff.
