Humoral and cell-mediated immunity in malnourished children in Ghana
Article Abstract:
A study was performed on normal children, moderately malnourished children and severely malnourished children in Ghana to assess the relationship between immunological variables and the various types and degree of malnutrition. Clinical observations, anthropometric measurements and blood sampling were done on the children. Results revealed that serum immunoglobulins of IgA1, IgA2 and C4 were higher among severely malnourished children compared to normal children. Also, serum level of C3 and the proportion of B cells were lower in severely malnourished children.
