The heart of genomics
Article Abstract:
Issues related to the genetic aspects of cardiac diseases are examined, focusing on how information supplied from the human genome project may affect the course of cardiac disease research. Topics include the socioeconomic consequence of cardiac diseases; the role genomics may play in specific cardiac diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; and scientific challenges for patient genotyping.

Functional genomics of 'Neisseria meningitidis' pathogenesis
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the genetic basis of the pathogenic bacterium 'Neisseria meningitidis', a cause of septicemia and meningitis. The authors provide a genome-wide analysis of the 'N. meningitidis' necessary for disseminated infection, and can possibly lead to new treatments for meningococcal infections.

Meningococcal genomics: two steps forward, one step back
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the advances of genetic technology that can offer insight into meningococcal diseases. The author examines the use of signature tagged mutagenesis, which identifies genes necessary of bacteremia, and can identify genes involved in pathogenesis.
