The impact of race/ethnicity on mother-to-child HIV transmission in the United States in pediatric AIDS clinical trials group protocol 316
Article Abstract:
An analysis was designed to determine whether race/ethnicity was associated with mother-to-child HIV-1 transmission risk in subjects in trial of 2-dose intrapartum nevirapine in combination with standard antiretroviral therapy. Though no significant difference between racial groups showed, there were important differences in baseline demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters, where European American subjects had higher entry CD4 cell counts and lower delivery HIV RNA levels than women of other race/ethnicity.

Decline in perinatal HIV transmission in New York State (1997-2000)
Article Abstract:
The risk factors associated with perinatal HIV transmission in New York State (NYS) from 1997 to 2000, the first 4 years of NYS's comprehensive program in which all HIV-exposed newborns were identified through universal HIV testing of newborns, are described. The public health policies, like improving access to care for pregnant women, advances in clinical care and receipt of appropriate preventive therapies, have contributed to decline in perinatal HIV transmission in NYS.
