Birth weight references for twins
Article Abstract:
Twin fetuses grow more slowly than single fetuses, according to a study of 1,831 twins born at 28 weeks' gestation or later. These data were used to create charts of weight percentiles for twins based on race and sex.

Critical periods of maternal weight gain: effect on twin birth weight
Article Abstract:
The influence of maternal weight gain on twins' birth weight may vary throughout pregnancy and could be affected by pre-pregnancy weight. Maternal weight and weight gain during pregnancy was compared with the summed birth weight of 646 sets of twins. Maternal weight gain before 20 weeks of pregnancy significantly influenced infant weights, especially in underweight women. Weight gain in normal-weight women throughout pregnancy contributed significantly to infant birth weights, while gains by overweight women in early and late pregnancy were not as influential.

The importance of early weight gain in the intrauterine growth and birth weight of twins
Article Abstract:
Maternal weight gain early in pregnancy appears to increase fetal growth and birth weight in women carrying twins. Researchers studied 1,564 births of twins, and found that maternal weight gain in early- and middle-pregnancy were associated with increased mid- and late-pregnancy fetal growth. Maternal weight gain throughout pregnancy led to greater birth weight in the infants.
