The influence of body build on estimates of body composition from anthropometric measurements in premenopausal women
Article Abstract:
A study, using dual energy X-ray absorptiomentry (DEXA) estimates of body fat as standards reference to compare estimates of body fat derived from body mass index with estimates got from DEXA and to evaluate the effect of body build on estimates of body composition from anthropometic measurements revealed that DEXA estimates of body fat acre greater than those from any of the anthropometric equations. Comparability and accuracy of body fat estimates obtained from age and 10r sex-specific anthropometric prediction equation based on shirfolds and body mass index can be enhance by adjusting for differences for BMI and umbilical circumference respectively.

Estimates of the sources of variation (variance components) of bioelectric impedance and anthropometric measurements in an epidemiological case-control study of breast cancer
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted among 50 breast-cancer patients and 75 controls to examine the variability of anthropometric measurements and body fat estimated by bioelectric impedance analysis and their association with breast cancer. Results showed no significant association between breast cancer and body composition components in both pre- and post-menopausal women. Meanwhile, a non-significant increase in body weight was noted in postmenopausal breast cancer patients even as body fat tended to be higher in these patients.

Anthropometric characteristics of older people in rural Malawi
Article Abstract:
The nutritional status of older people in rural Malawi was investigated. A cross-sectional study of 296 respondents in Lilongwe was undertaken by measuring their anthropometric characteristics such as height, body mass index and corrected arm muscle area. Results showed that older people in rural areas in Malawi suffer from severe undernutrition. Kyphosis and edema were also found in some subjects.
