Article Abstract:
The modern Western tradition of medically prolonging life by all means possible is being questioned by terminally ill patients, their families, and financially-strapped societies. The developing ethics of palliative care could illuminate the entire debate on the ethics of terminal care.

A new way of seeing old age is needed
Article Abstract:
Health policymakers must resist the predominant social perception of the elderly as a 'burden' on the young, despite the growing ratios of old to young in many societies. Old age is entitled to a respectful examination of the issues of resource scarcity based on ethics, not resentment.
