Fighting infections with vitamin D
Article Abstract:
Niels Finsen of Denmark, in 1895, found an effective way to treat tuberculosis of the skin by exposing individuals with tuberculosis of skin to high-intensity light produced from an electric arc, which produced moderate sunburn curing about 95% of the affected people. The superficial skin layer later peeled away leaving normal, healthy skin underneath, making phototherapy a treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis a routine in 1920s.
