The nutritional status and dietary pattern of Chinese adolescents, 1991 and 1993
Article Abstract:
The diet and nutritional status of Chinese adolescents improved between 1991 and 1993, according to research among 2,236 and 2,018 adolescents aged between 10 and 18 in 1991 and 1993 respectively. The prevalence of stunting was 23% in 1991, but had fallen to 19% by 1993. The prevalence of overweight or obesity is rising, but is still only 4%, quite low in comparison with developed countries. It was found that consumption of dietary fat is rising among Chinese adolescents, while consumption of grain and cereal products is falling.
