Dame Catherine Hall, who for 25 years was the general secretary of the UK's RCN, is associated for some people with the old-fashioned image of the organisation which was cast aside when Trevor Clay became general secretary in 1982. However, she was in fact a very strong woman, and fought hard on many issues. She did a great deal to ensure that the needs of nurses were heard, and was not afraid to tackle politicians.

Should nurses encourage parents to take up the MMR vaccine?
Article Abstract:
Conflicting views are expressed about whether nurses should advise parents to allow their children to have the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. Some observers believe that there is no scientific evidence linking this vaccine with autism or bowel disease, while others feel that parents should be advised by specialist nurse practitioners.
