'We're worse off,' say south of England nurses
Article Abstract:
Nurses in towns in the south of the UK where the economy is thriving are finding it very hard to cope financially. They earn no more than their colleagues in the north, but must pay more for accommodation, travel and other necessary items. This situation may improve as a result of the government's plans for modernizing the National Health Service pay system. Under these plans, there would be a strong national structure for pay, but this would also value local flexibility.
