The price of a physician practice
Article Abstract:
The Center for Healthcare Industry Performance Studies (CHIPS) released its findings regarding physician practice acquisitions in The 1995 Physician Practice Acquisition Resource Book. CHIPS found that specialty and multispecialty practices were paid the highest acquisitions fees, and family practices the lowest. Physicians paid the most for their practices were granted the highest salaries when going to work for the acquiring institution. Practices were less expensive in the Northeast than elsewhere, with the bulk of acquisitions being in the area of primary care.

Boston's backyard
Article Abstract:
Physicians and other providers of health care in Rhode Island and New Hampshire express mixed opinions about the prospects for integration of services with better known institutions in Boston, MA. For instance, Lifespan, based in Providence, RI, bought the New England Medical Center, a Boston institution in financial straits. Lifespan claims to involve physicians in making decisions. Other New England healthcare coalitions are described.
