The prisoner
Article Abstract:
The carer of a stroke patient may often feel they are direct victims of the disease, being trapped by the illness which affects a member of their family. Full time caring can be an isolating experience, especially if the carer has no option of help outside the home. The Stoke Association and Association of Carers helps people come to terms with looking after a relative, offering guidance on therapy and services available, while ensuring carers learn to give themselves much needed time.

Nurses need to coordinate rehabilitation treatment for stroke patients through multidisciplinary team work. There needs to be a high ratio of nurses to patient, while starting the patient on an early program of occupational therapy and physiotherapy helps development of muscle coordination and normalization of speech and movement.
