The science of measuring satisfaction; physician groups try to find insight in reading patient ratings
Article Abstract:
The American Group Practice Assn (AGPA) has developed a software tool that helps group medical practices compare their patient satisfaction level to other similar group medical practices. The AGPA database covers 30 specialties and includes 328 physicians. About 12,226 patients have answered 13 questions that are typically included in patient satisfaction surveys. The results are compared to an industry benchmark that ranks specialties to help practice groups improve.

Physician groups could be next target for NCQA quality measures
Article Abstract:
Performance data on physician groups may eventually be derived from the National Committee for Quality Assurance's Healthplan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) health plan performance evaluation scheme. HEDIS is still considered by some top employer representatives, at the level of health plans, to be most useful in directing consumer choice. Purchasers are increasingly becoming more impatient with the slow advancement in measure development.
