Cervical cerclage: an alternative for the management of placenta previa?
Article Abstract:
Cervical cerclage does not appear to be more effective than traditional methods for managing placentia previa. The cerclage is a small polyester band that is placed around the cervix. Researchers randomly assigned 39 pregnant women with placentia previa to receive a cervical cerclage or no cerclage in addition to traditional treatment including bed rest and drugs to manage the condition. There were no differences between the groups with respect to fetal age at delivery, bleeding episodes, number of blood transfusions, hospital stay and costs or admission to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Success rates and estimation of gestational age for medical abortion vary with transvaginal ultrasonographic criteria
Article Abstract:
Studies of methotrexate and misoprostol in inducing abortion have to take into account the method used to determine the age of the fetus. These drugs are very effective in inducing abortion up to 49 days of pregnancy. Thus it is very important to estimate the age of the fetus. Two ways of doing this are measuring the dimensions of the gestational sac and measuring the length of the fetus. Both are done using ultrasound. A study of 1,011 women who had these measurements and were given the drugs found that the measurements gave different results.
