The single care home
Article Abstract:
The number of beds in nursing homes in the UK has risen rapidly over recent years, but in many cases there has not been a corresponding rise in the provision of the skilled professional nursing care required by many nursing home residents. Some observers feel that it would be appropriate to move towards single-ticket care homes, which would eliminate inappropriate placement and stop people being moved from one home to another. However, such homes will not be effective unless sufficient resources are provided to ensure adequate nursing care.

Educating Elsie
Article Abstract:
An elderly patient called Elsie Atkinson became incontinent due to a series of events leading to her becoming a full-time resident in an old people's home. The onset of incontinence was examined and no cause could be found. She was fairly independent, yet began to have problems in getting herself to the toilet especially when it became dark. She was helped by an holistic approach, enabling her to overcome the problem with as little intervention as possible through encouragement and guidance rather than pushing.
