The smoke hasn't cleared; while you wait for FDA tobacco controls to take effect, you can still do much to help patients quit
Article Abstract:
Physicians can play a crucial role in helping smokers to quit the habit and in dissuading young people from ever taking it up. Physicians can address the problem directly while consulting with patients who are smokers. Guidelines for addressing patient smokers are available from the American Medical Association (AMA) and the U.S. Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Physicians can also mobilize within their communities and through physicians' groups like the AMA to help institute tougher legislative controls on smoking.

Yellow pages ads still valuable despite managed care
Article Abstract:
Physicians can effectively use local yellow pages for their advertising medium despite the increasing popularity of managed care. Many managed care patients use the yellow pages to identify potential specialists. About 35% of adults use the yellow pages before selecting a physician, and of those about two-thirds look at one or more ads, according to Statistical Research Inc. Techniques for maximizing the yellow pages ad are discussed.
