The use of brief therapy as part of the nursing care plan
Article Abstract:
The nursing process care plan is viewed by the UKCC as a key element in nursing practice, but this view is not shared by some psychiatric nurses. They feel that care plans to not prompt patients to feel that nurses are much more therapeutic, and do not increase patient satisfication with the standard of care received. Many nurses find it hard to write care plans, particularly in mental health nursing, where it is difficult to analyse emotional issues. Against this background, brief therapy, in which small goals are established, is seen as much more effective.

Changing the nursing culture in a special hospital
Article Abstract:
Nursing practices at Ashworth Special Hospital, a mental hospital on Merseyside, England, are undergoing great changes. This follows criticisms in a 1992 report. The Health Advisory Service has now reported that dehumanising practices no longer exist and that exemplary practice is in evidence.
